What did you do before you worked for SOFEA?

I was a teacher for 15 years in Leeds and Oxford, finishing my teaching career as a Deputy Head in a large Oxfordshire Secondary School.

Why did you decide to work for SOFEA?

I decided to found SOFEA in 2014 to create opportunities for young people to transform their lives, bringing together education, wellbeing and work through our partnership with FareShare. The idea of having a working warehouse redistributing surplus food to people in need as a way of giving young people purpose and developing their skills felt like the right thing to do.

What is the best thing about your job?

Seeing young people thrive.

What have you learnt since being employed by SOFEA?

So much, from my colleagues and young people, especially that no matter what there’s always a way.

In one sentence, say something about SOFEA.

It’s a fun place to be, it does important work and it gives people hope.

Tell us something about you that not many people would know?

I love being part of our table tennis team, even though we get thrashed most weeks.
