What did you do before you came to SOFEA?
I went to college for a year. I didn’t know what I wanted to do afterwards. Someone suggested here – and I really like it.
What barriers have you overcome at SOFEA?
I was really quiet and shy. I did a leadership course and learned how to lead people and that’s made my confidence grow.
How has working here changed your life?
I’ve gained more friends. I’ve got a bond with all the trainees and everyone in the warehouse. We’re not told what to do, we feel like we work with each other as part of a team. We talk with the senior leaders too – what works well, what doesn’t work well – it’s nice.
How have you used the skills you’ve learned here?
I’ve been able to help people out with food. I help people more now than I did. I’ve got more responsibilities so I talk more about work, about what needs to be done – it makes me speak up more. I think I speak up a little more outside of work too. If I see a problem I’ll try to resolve it.
How has life changed for you?
I didn’t have a plan of what I wanted to do. I didn’t have the confidence, but now I do.
