Tesco to launch “Buy One to Help A Child” this summer with the aim of providing three million meals for children.
Every time a customer buys fresh fruit or veg during the scheme, Tesco will donate to FareShare.
Tesco customers can now help provide millions of meals to feed children this summer and beyond, thanks to a new UK-wide scheme announced on the 17th July 2021. Currently, 2.3 million children in the UK live in households that have experienced food insecurity in the last six months, a situation that has worsened during the pandemic.
To help ensure children do not miss out on meals Tesco will make a donation for every piece of fresh fruit and veg bought in its stores from July 19th 2021 to August 8th 2021.
Over the three-week campaign, Tesco expects to sell enough fruit and veg to donate up to three million meals to its charity partner FareShare to redistribute to charities and local community groups supporting children.
FareShare supports frontline charities and community groups working with children – from summer holiday clubs, breakfast clubs, to community kitchens and groups which supply food parcels to those facing food insecurity.
Together we are helping to build stronger communities across the UK.
Consumers up and down the UK will be contributing to the scheme by simply doing their weekly or monthly shop instore or online so when planning those healthy meals at home make sure to add plenty of fresh fruit and veg to your shop and Tesco will make those all-important donations.
