RWE Didcot Power Plant donates £1000 to SOFEA’s Table Tennis Team

We were delighted to be presented with a £1000 donation last week from RWE Didcot Power Station, to support our table tennis team. Following their 2023 victory at the Didcot and District Table Tennis League Handicap Tournament, this donation has enabled the team to purchase shirts and a serving robot to put them through their paces.

While visiting the Didcot site, Ed Jamieson, the Plant Manager at RWE Didcot Power Station, said, “As a power station located next to the local community, we’re more than happy to support SOFEA. Obviously, our charity budgets for the last three years have been focused on supporting youngsters post-pandemic. So, things like SOFEA and food banks are right at the top of our list and we were really impressed with the visit today.

It’s good to see these sorts of opportunities available for young people in the community. We have several types of trainee routes into the business, but it’s really good to see the opportunities here.”

Bill Hanks, the table tennis coach added, “It’s a fantastic opportunity to get shirts and the table tennis robot as it benefits the kids tremendously and that’s what we’re here for, and it’s really appreciated.”

The serving robot helped our CEO Richard Kennell improve his forehand work, while it should give our team the edge this year in defence of their hard-earned silverware.
