Hey, are you between the ages of 16-24, on Universal Credit, looking for work but can’t find the job that’s right for you? Well maybe you need to take a look at the government’s new Kickstart Scheme; an initiative designed specifically to help youngsters at risk of long term unemployment.
Contact your local Jobcentre Plus and speak with your Work Coach and ask them for opportunities available. SOFEA have Kickstart positions available in Didcot and Milton Keynes.
So, what exactly is the Kickstart Scheme?
Between the months of March and May 2021, there were 539,000 youngsters between the ages of 16-24 who were unemployed. While this only constitutes 13.5% of the 16-24 age bracket, the government, in partnership with Jobcentre Plus, created the Kickstart Scheme with the specific aim of helping this group join the labour force.
The jobs offered by the Kickstart Scheme will typically give you 25 hours a week for a sixth month period; paid at either the National Minimum Wage, or depending on how old you are, the National Living Wage. Depending on your circumstances, you’ll also continue to receive Universal Credit.
What else do I get?
At SOFEA we offer many opportunities to our Kickstart employees, as a young person you will have valuable work experience to add to your CV’s which we will take the time to help you produce should you need it. We will also take the time to assist you with your onward career journey.
