Ever since SOFEA opened in 2014, we realised that school isn’t for everyone. So, if you’re between the ages of 16-24 years old and didn’t get what you needed at school, and didn’t want to go to Sixth Form or college, why not try getting some qualifications at SOFEA?
SOFEA isn’t a school; and because we’re not a school, we’re not expecting you to fit in. Instead, we adapt the learning to fit you. No matter who you are or how you learn, it’s always easier to build skills for the future when it’s done on your terms.
What We Teach
We offer a full time, accredited Education Programme that includes GCSE qualifications in Maths and English. You might have studied these before, but you won’t have studied them our way before. If you didn’t get the mark you wanted the first time, that’s ok, and if it’s your first time trying to get these qualifications; that’s ok too.
Unlike school, at SOFEA you’ll work in small classes, usually in groups no bigger than ten; with plenty of support. That way, our educational staff are always at hand to guide you, and you’ll be amazed with what you can achieve.
What We Do
– Full time courses for 16-24 year olds
– 3 days per week, 9:30am to 3:30pm
– Expert support and advice
– Personalised career guidance
– One-to-one mental health support
How We Do It
With SOFEA, you’ll gain self-confidence and workplace skills by being part of a team while working to help those in need. An important part of what we do at SOFEA is to receive food from supermarkets that would otherwise be thrown away, then redistribute it to vulnerable people who really need it. Thanks to your help; the homeless, women living in shelters, pensioners attending lunch clubs and people in disability groups will get to enjoy a decent meal.
If you require any extra help or support, we have the right people with the expertise you need to help with whatever problems you may be experiencing. If you’re struggling mentally, socially, or academically; you’re not alone. Our staff has your back.
Why It Works
Instead of telling you who to be, we will help you become who you want to be. With our combination of academic support, mental health care and work experience, as well as our highly skilled staff, we work differently from other places.
If you’re worried about your benefits being affected by going to SOFEA, there’s no need. Our programmes qualify as full-time education, so your family can still access child benefits and tax credits.
Our education programmes have helped over 400 youngsters get the qualifications they need in order to get where they want in life. Not only that, but our students have also maintained a Maths GCSE pass rate of 93%, an English GCSE pass rate of 100% and an average pass rate among all our study programmes of 86.5%.
If you’re enjoying getting involved with storage and logistics in our food redistribution warehouse, it can open up opportunities for more specific training. Any training completed with SOFEA is fully accredited, so you’ll be able to transfer the skills you’ve learned into your next job. We offer more specialised training in the following areas:
– Forklift truck licence
– Food Hygiene
– First Aid
– Manual Handling
While getting work experience and qualifications are important, there’s more to life than just work. We make sure there are opportunities where you can relax, socialise, work out and express yourself.
– Fitness classes with an MMA champion
– Arts and creative workshops
– Personal development programmes
– Trips and visits
– Sexual health, reproductive health and HIV education (SRE)
Making it Work For You
Everything is tailored to you. Usually an education programme with SOFEA will include Maths and English, as well as a Entry Level 3 to Level 2 Learning, Employability and Progression Qualifications; combined with real work experience.
Whatever your ability and however you learn, at SOFEA you’ll find a programme that’s designed not only to fit your needs, but also your ability and any qualifications you might already have.
