SOFEA is a unique place for young people.

Going to college or into Sixth Form isn’t for everyone, so where else can you get the right skills that local employers want? SOFEA provides a real alternative choice, smaller than college and a lot more flexible, providing high levels of support to make sure you succeed.

We work with young people aged between 16 and 18 (or up to 24 with an EHCP/Statement of Needs) to:

  • Get real work experience
  • Prepare for work
  • Gain qualifications and skills

SOFEA has worked with over 100 young people over the last year, a number of whom have achieved forklift licences and/or moved on into paid employment.

How does it work?

When you sign up, we start by talking to you about what you want to do. Then we’ll design your programme to suit your needs. Courses can be studied at the level appropriate for you, as Study Programmes or Traineeships. Click here for more information on the programmes we offer.

We work with a specialist recruitment agency, Futures Placed. They will support you to:

  • Explore career options
  • Create a professional CV
  • Apply for jobs
  • Practise for interviews

We believe that getting ready for work is one ingredient for a successful future, but there’s more to life than that, so we also run:

  • Functional fitness classes with an MMA champion
  • Arts and Creative Media workshops
  • Personal Development Programmes
  • Trips and visits

We will pay travel expenses. See our Contact Us page for directions and bus routes.
