On the evening of November 12th 2015, SOFEA were pleased to host our first annual Charity Networking Event in our warehouse. The event was designed to bring together our network of charities who receive food from us (over 50 and counting), and also to welcome new charities to see what SOFEA does. The evening saw over 60 people come along, representing over 20 different charities.
The event started with some informal mingling, hot food (our Therapist Kaz makes the best three bean chili!), drinks, and tours of the building. Our tours were led by our brilliant young people, for whom we are very grateful to have! Guests were treated to seeing all of our facilities, including inside our Chillers, training rooms, and our IT, Radio and Art facilities.
Half way through the event, CEO Richard gave a brilliant talk on the opportunities for new and existing charities receiving food from SOFEA. Richard pointed out that we are expanding our services into new areas outside of Oxfordshire, and also that we are expanding our food deliveries through FareShare, ensuring more food is saved and distributed! Good news which was well timed to reflect the sentiment of Hugh Fearnly-Whittingstalls recent programmes: Hugh’s War on Waste.
The event then offered different networking opportunities, including a ‘slightly more formal’ session in our training room. Here, local charities got to assess common ground, opportunities for partnership working, and increased their knowledge of other local charity providers.
Some of our feedback of the event included:
““Very useful. It was good to be taken round by one of your trainees. She told us a lot about what she does and about your organisation.”
““Very useful, I understand the variety of SOFEA’s work – fantastic”
“Very useful, introduction to SOFEA and also networking with organisations”
“More events would be fantastic for publicity so more understand gets out there”
SOFEA was really pleased with the turn out of this event, and its very likely we will turn this Charity Networking evening into an annual event. Thanks to all charities who came along, and a really special thanks to our hardworking and ever inspiring young people who helped make the evening happen.
Please stay tuned for a clip of this event, and please do get in touch if you would like to attend an event like this in the future.
That’s Oxford TV came along and filmed the event. The final video is below.
